Founded in 1953 by John and Brita Haycraft in Córdoba in Spain, International House (IH) has grown to become a global network 150 affiliated language schools in more than 50 countries. In 1962, John and Brita launched the first teacher training course in London, which later became known as CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), the most widely recognized English teaching qualification, assessed by the University of Cambridge. Today, IH schools train about half of all CELTA graduates globally.
Established in January 2017 by two young teachers, May Mon Aung and May Tharaphi Win, The SPACE Language Academy, now known as International House Yangon – Mandalay, began its venture in a small apartment in Yangon. In 2020, the academy launched online classes to enable students to continue their learning during the pandemic. Thanks to its communicative and interactive approach, the SPACE became the largest provider of online classes in Myanmar, reaching thousands of students. In 2022, SPACE Junior was introduced for young learners, and in 2023, a new center was opened in Mandalay.
In 2024 September, the SPACE Language Academy became the first International House schools in Myanmar as International House Yangon (IH Yangon) and International House Mandalay (IH Mandalay).
We primarily offer English for professional, academic and communicative purposes. We also provide standardized as well as customized corporate training programmes for organisations from different industries. Our teaching approach is communicative and student-oriented approach. We promise that our students acquire English language skills that accurately reflect their level of study.
IH Yangon and Mandalay offers the following types of classes: General English, Business English, IELTS preparation classes, Online speaking classes, Online writing classes, summer classes for secondary students, English for teens and SPACE Junior (11-14 years).
